New York a primavera è bellissima. Se poi nella stessa settimana ci metti anche la Frieze, uno degli eventi d’arte più importanti a livello internazionale, per me è la meta da sogno.

Ho partecipato a diverse fiere internazionali negli ultimi anni e la tappa della Frieze newyorchese mi mancava.  Centinaia di gallerie espongono diversi artisti per 3 giorni nel  padiglione fieristico realizzato nell’isolotto a nord di Manhattan Randall’s Island Park.

Le Fiere d’Arte moderna e contemporanea stanno diventando happening artistici che coinvolgono un pubblico sempre più vasto ed eterogeneo , questo per la capacità di curatori e galleristi di presentare opere che affrontano tematiche attuali ed anche perché hanno un’estetica forte e di impatto.

Grande protagonista di questa edizione è stata la politica americana con Donald Trump soggetto di numerosi lavori. Il più emblematico è quello del fotografo Andres Serrano che nel suo lavoro in serie dal titolo America ritrae il faccione di Donald tra quello di Snoopy Dog, rapper e produttore discografico, e quello di un nativo indiano e poi di un pompiere coinvolto nelle operazioni di salvataggio durante l’attentato dell’11 settembre 2001. Il messaggio è chiaro questa è l’America baby nel bene e nel male.

Anche le donne sono centrali nell’edizione 2017 di Frieze New York: Yayoi Kusama e Louise Bourgeois ad esempio che con le loro sculture monocrome bianche e rosa  concretizzano i disagi e i percorsi della psiche femminile.

E poi Jenny Holzer artista concettuale che attraverso la semantica crea opere altamente visive e dai contenuti forti e Nancy Spero che con le sue installazioni richiama temi relativi alla donna come la fertilità nel caso dell’opera presente alla Fiera.

Donne e Politica, nulla di più contemporaneo; nulla è capace di essere più contemporaneo dell’arte.

 

New York during the Spring is so beautiful. And if in the same period there is also one of the most important Art Fair in the world, the Frieze, for me the Big Apple it’s the perfect destination.

I visited several Art Fairs in the last years and the one in New York was actually missing. More the an hundred galleries show international artists for 3 days in the location at the nord Manhattan island, Rolland’s Island Park.

The Art Fairs are becoming cultural events that involve a bigger audience than before. This is due mainly to the ability of the curators to arrange exhibitions that talk about current important social topics and because the artworks have a unique creative style.

Main topic in the 2017 Frieze New York has been the politic focus on Trump. One of the most significant artwork is the photographies serie by Andres Serrano. In his artwork he shows the Donald portrait in the middle between the rapper and producer Snoppy Dog, a Native Indian American and a fireman that worked during the terroristic attack of 9/11.  The message is clear this is America baby in the good and in the worst.

Also the women have a central role in this Frieze edition Yayoi Kusama and Louise Bourgeois with their mono color sculptures, white and pink , symbolize the discomfort and issues of the women mind.

And then Jenny Holzer conceptual artist that through semantics produces artworks with strong communication value and Nancy Spero that with her installations talks about women topics like for example the fertility at Frieze this year.

Women and Politics , nothing is more contemporary; nothing can be more contemporary than  Art.
